Autism Timeout – Why Do We Send Her To Timeout?

maxresdefault

We sometimes have to tell Abigail go to timeout (or teak a break) but it’s less about punishment and more about removing her from the situation so she has a chance to calm down and collect herself. We can’t allow her to get too worked up because it will often escalate. The hopeful future impact this has is that Abigail will learn to self-calm and know to remove herself from a situation when she’s feeling overwhelmed or upset.
